Mama Kuurrku Wangka Marlangkatjanya, 'Father God's Later Word', is a translation of the New Testament into the Ngaanyatjarra language.
This translation uses a combination of Ngaanyatjarra and Ngaatjatjarra vocabulary but the grammar is exclusively Ngaanyatjarra. Ngaanyatjarra and Ngaatjatjarra are spoken in the central desert area of Western Australia at the centres of Warburton, Tjirrkarli, Jameson, Blackstone, Wanarn, Warakurna and Tjukurla. Some speakers also live at Laverton, Leonora, Mt Margaret and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and at Docker River in the Northern Territory.
This translation was prepared by members of the. Ngaanyatjarra Bible Project in collaboration with thirty Ngaanyatjarra and Ngaatjatjarra speakers from Warburton, Jameson, Blackstone, Wanarn, Warakurna and Tjukurla. Translation of this material commenced in 1973 and was completed in 1990.
This translation is an idiomatic one which has aimed to translate the underlying meaning of the original Greek into understandable Ngaanyatjarra idiom, rather than a literal translation of the Greek words and idioms.
Verses not found in all the ancient Greek manuscripts have been included in the text in square brackets. A list of these is found in an appendix.
